We had a few minutes to talk with Tomo, Shannon and Jared from 30 Seconds to Mars, and we gave them our Pop Quiz. Their families taught them a lot, they’d sit in on a lecture from Jesus or Leonardo da Vinci, and they love chicken nuggets.

In a conversation with Stryker this afternoon, frontman Jared Leto said that he was “happy” that he “managed to get through it without collapsing,” partially because he was afraid to lose his voice, but also because hometown shows make the seemingly cool-headed actor get a little “nervous.” In an earlier interview with Kat Corbett, Leto that he’d seen greats like Radiohead, Oasis, and Blur at different Weenie Roasts throughout the years as just a music fan. Now it’s Thirty Seconds To Mars’ turn to influence the future Jared Leto’s of Southern California. “I’m entirely grateful to the rock gods for letting me finish the show,” said Leto. “It was lovely to see all the freaks in California that are our family that we love so much and it was a great way to start. So, really happy to be part of the festivities.” Leto opened up Thirty Seconds To Mars’ portion of the festivities by playing “The Kill” acoustic in the middle of the audience and admitted that he loves to “break down that wall between the band and the audience.” The band–releasing their 4th studio album Love, Lust, Faith, and Dreams tomorrow–is doing just that. Leto announced exclusively on KROQ that Thirty Seconds To Mars will be playing a Church of Mars show for free in Los Angeles tomorrow evening (Tuesday) in honor of their record release.
“It’s a free show. It will get filled up and sell out very quickly,” warned Leto. “It’s going to be an amazing day because it’s our release day and we’re going to celebrate by playing a bunch of songs acoustic.” Leto elaborated that the Church of Mars show will be “super intimate; ton of new songs; unreleased material. And it will be something not to miss” because “they’ll have a “quartet and lots of other exciting things.” “Maybe even Buzz Aldrin will sing a song,” seemingly joked the singer. “You never know.” If you’re looking to “climb into your subconscious and take a hallucinogenic journey into the unknown,” look no further. The concert with take place at 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 21st the First Unitarian Universalist Church Of Los Angeles. Tickets are FREE but fans must e-mail officialmarstickets@gmail.com to request tickets. –Nadia Noir, KROQ
For California natives like Thirty Seconds To Mars, KROQ’s Weenie Roast — even more so than Memorial Day — marks the unofficial start of the summer season. So it’s a real honor for the guys to return to Weenie Roast six years after they made their debut in 2007, this time as the night’s headliners alongside the Black Keysand Vampire Weekend. Jared Leto remembers going to the show when him and his brother (and bandmate) Shannon were just kids. “It’s a real treat to be back,” Leto told Radio.com in our new video interview. Weenie Roast will also be the first big show the band has played in a year and a half. “It’s going to be interesting,” Jared said with a laugh. “It’s going to be much different than the Church of Mars.” For the last month, the guys have been playing shows in churches across the United States, making stops in cities like Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and New York. Each show only fits about 200 to 800 people, but for the band it’s been a way to say thank you to some of their biggest fans. With the release of their fourth album, LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS (out May 21), the band looks forward to showing off their new music in a festival setting, especially the record’s lead single, “Up In The Air,” which has been a hit with the Church of Mars crowd. “Everyone has a great time on this small scale so I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like on the big scale,” Shannon said. Not that the guys are concerned about playing to a big crowd. They currently hold the Guinness World Record for the most shows played in a single tour. Jared said that the many, many shows they played actually helped in the making of their latest album, calling it “an evolution” for the band. “We learned a lot playing hundred and hundreds of shows,” Jared said. “It really means that we had a lot of practice. So we applied that. We’ve grown up a lot.” They connected each song to their four-word title and made a cohesive album in the day and age of the single. “I think that connectivity tissue helps to provide a little more cohesive, a little less disjointed feeling to the album,” he said. Jared believes fans will be impressed with the album and even more so, he thinks they’ll gain a few new followers that wrote off the band years ago. “I think some people are going to feel like it’s OK to like Thirty Seconds To Mars,” Leto said with a chuckle. “And that’s kind of fun.” Catch the band headlining KROQ’s Weenie Roast Saturday May 18 at noon PT. If you can’t make it to L.A. you can watch the webcast from your couch.

Second part of the interview from Radio 104.5 made to 30 Seconds to mars. We posted some days ago the first part -only with Jared, this new is with all the band-, you can find it here. Also you can a short resume by the journalist: This is part deaux of my interview with the lovely chaps of Thirty Seconds To Mars. I had to ask them about 'The Sleepover.' The premise- from what I understand- is ultimately a fan will not only come to frontman Jared Leto's house, but also sleep in his bed. He assured me his "package was not part of the package." Some people have accused him of "prostituting" himself...he doesn't seem to be offended by that accusation. Here's to Snugglefest 2013! The guys also told me about where the concept of their album art came from and why they still love the idea of being on the radio. Jared Leto said "we get to be a part of people's lives in that immediate and spontaneous way." Couldn't have said it better myself.
